Senda Verde
Tucked into the green folds of the Bolivian yungas, Senda Verde is the only sanctuary in Bolivia able to receive Andean bears. When a jucumari is confiscated from traffickers or a cub is left orphaned, there is exactly one door to knock on: Senda Verde. Four rescued bears, Tipnis, Ajayu, Tarkus, and Chojña, live there today, and our grant funds the entirety of their habitat care for a full year: renewing the worn wood, iron, and mesh of their enclosures, repairing and modernizing the electric perimeter fencing, building new feeding and sleeping platforms, and securing a steady supply of specialized food, nutritional supplements, and medication chosen by the sanctuary's veterinary team, with particular attention to Tipnis and Ajayu. This is what serious care looks like: fences that hold, shelters that stand, and bears that climb, forage, and play as bears should. Bolivia is one of the most biodiverse countries on earth, and the jucumari is its only bear. What Senda Verde protects is not just a species. It is a promise to the animal our foundation is named after: that losing the forest does not have to mean losing everything.
